President’s Message: Round 9

Hi All Sharks

The mini break Queen’s Birthday long weekend was a great chance for many parents to recharge their batteries. The weather has certainly turned to perfect football conditions. Great to see how well the grounds are holding up, especially Stinton’s. A quick note on the Sharkwiz Trivia Night. Well done to everyone, we raised just on $11,000; a great effort.

Thank you to our weekly helpers who assist in roles that help our kids play football. You are all very much appreciated by not only the committee but your Team Managers and Coaches, keep up the great efforts. Also, all parents must be congratulated on how they are conducting themselves each week. The show of respect and conduct to umpires and our oppositions has been noted by the league.

GO SHARKS!!

S.A.L.T. Sport and Life Training

Yarra Junior football league hosted Sport and Life Training during the past 2 weeks and more than 20 of our coaches, team managers and committee members from the Sharks attended.

As president, I also attended the session, as at times I too need to be reminded that being part of a junior football club is not about the scoreboard or the umpire’s decisions, but it is all about the boys (& soon also the girls!). It’s the sense of identity and belonging to a team and knowing that the club is here to support them as they grow that is important. The statistics on adolescent drug use and suicide were scary – it was a refresher on what is really important – We are here to create and maintain an environment where boys can grow into responsible young men and know their mates care and will look after them in good times and bad. It’s about learning what’s right and being able to respect one’s self and the community we live in. It’s about developing the courage to speak out and helping mates in tough times. It seems odd but it is not really about the footy – it’s about building a positive club culture – that’s what really matters.

This also applies to all our parent helpers and families as well. How can we be a positive influence in our community and as members of the greater Sharks family show support to all? I know I’m not known for my soft side but it was a great session and a timely motivator as I am passionate about club culture. With the help of all Shark’s stakeholders, let’s continue to do everything we can to make the Sharks JFC the envy of all other clubs.

Bounce Health Group

One of our long term sponsors “Bounce” are holding their annual information night. On Monday 4th July they will be running an extremely informative evening on sports taping techniques. There are limited places available for the Sharks family to attend. Please contact Paul directly to reserve your spot, paulhaas@bouncehealth.com.au . A $5.00 cover charge applies. Burger Night

This Sunday the 26th is our second burger night for the year. The Colts, U8’s and U9’s will be hosting the evening. Please come along and be part of the activities. The boys will be putting on a clinic of their skills for us all. Also, presentation medals will be handed out to all players who have achieved the 50 or 100 game milestones this year. Remember to grab a ticket when ordering your food as this week’s raffle will have nearly $3,000 worth of Rebel vouchers to be won.

Team Photos

Thanks for everyone’s understanding, we had to move the team photo sessions as they clashed with other events. They are now scheduled for Friday evening the 15th July and Sunday 17th July at Domeney Reserve, the week before the cocktail party. Team managers will inform teams of their date and times closer to the date.

Cocktail Night

This night is put on for you, the parents, to enjoy, mingle and let your hair down and enjoy the evening. Saturday 23rd July at “The Farm” (formally “All Smiles”), located on Delaneys Road, Off Wonga Road, Warrandyte South. Please get online and book tickets now. All enquiries please contact Michael Newton – Events Coordinator – on mobile 0421 049 904 or via email; events@sharksjfc.org.au

Stinton’s Siren

Finally we have a new electric siren at Stinton’s. Thanks must be forwarded to Jeff at JNJ Electrics for installing it last week. Thank you and well done to all involved.

Senior’s Report

For those that havent been around for the 6 seasons of our senior football club, let me try
and paint a picture. For the POFC, every week of football is important for us. But when the week also happens to be Warrandyte or Mitcham football clubs……it means even that bit more. Hosted by Peter and his committee the day was well publicised and a good crowd was in attendance. We honour the Warrandyte Football Club for the amount of change they have dealt with this year. New coaches across all teams, a totally new committee and many new faces that havent played together. It would have been a tough slog getting the club onto the park this year and we appreciate the hard work Peter and his committee have put in to have the success they’ve achieved to date.

With a dramatic u19’s finish that left the game v UFTG in a draw, the wet conditions and sloppy football will be a day we’d like to move on from asap. Over at Warrandyte our two senior teams came away with 9 solid quarters of football and two really great wins. Seniors by 77 points and our ressies by 67 points are a sign of some exciting cohesive football and a belief that our 4th place on the ladder is well and truely been earnt. All 3 teams believe that we have the crop to challenge deep into the season if we stay on this track and continue to develop or football.

If ever there has been a call to arms to support our team – we need each and every Park Orchards true believer to come stand with us…’all-in’ as we fight against the ladder leader – Upper Ferntree Gully. u19’s are at 10am, Reserves start at midday, and the seniors are set for 2pm. Bring along the family, a neighbour and lets come out in numbers to cheer on our Sharks Football teams. See you on Saturday.

Summary

Round 10, Sunday 26th, then school holidays with the following Sunday off.
All please enjoy. Go Sharks!!
If at any stage you have any queries then please don’t hesitate to contact myself.

Go Sharks!
