President's Message
Hi Sharks families,
My name is Travis Rankin and I’m looking forward to being the junior club president over the coming years. I’ve lived in the community for about ten years with my family and we’ve been involved in the club for the past three years. My wife Meg has been an assistant coach in the Under 16’s and my daughters Em (U16) and Lucinda (U14) have enjoyed their playing involvement in our community club greatly. My footy club background extends back to my earliest memories at Moama, Bendigo Pioneers, Mitcham and Eaglehawk. My most recent involvement has been coaching the fantastic U14 Sharks girls, easily my most rewarding footy challenge.
Also new to the committee, we welcome Eulinid Bilucaglia (VP), Tim Dawson (Welfare), Sophie Broadbent (Teams Manager), Rob Sprague (Sponsorship) and huge gratitude to the returning committee members and our wider support team who selflessly dedicate time towards ensuring our kids can enjoy playing their favourite game.
Without trying to sound like a presidential campaign our focus will predominantly centre around the community, development and enabling opportunity to thrive. Our strength is our community, we’ll develop capabilities in our players and coaches whilst giving every player the best environment to thrive as young people on and off the field.
Thank you to the near one hundred people who took advantage of the early intent to play register. This is a record for this time of year and I encourage everyone to sign up once registrations open in early November.
There will be a small increase in fees to enable the YJFL and our club invest in equipment and umpires. You’ll be able to find more information on our website in the coming weeks.
I’m looking forward to the next two events we have planned. We’re celebrating ‘This Girl Can Week’ on Sunday at Domeney with three AFLW players in attendance (10-11am) followed by a BBQ. We’ll also hold our annual ‘Come & Try’ event on the 26th of November (10-11am) again followed by a BBQ.
Please contact me directly if you’d like to connect.
Enjoy your off-season and I look forward to a fun 2024.
Cheers Trav

President's Message
Hello Sharks Families
It’s hard to think we only have one round left of season 2023 with so many teams fighting for their spot in the finals. It has certainly been an exciting season to date.
It seems that we are all settled back in to life after the Covid upheaval and as a result have witnessed a relatively smooth sailing season with so many reasons to celebrate, including:
We started 2023 with strong numbers across ages groups for both boys and girls, and have seen our players develop and grow in skill and confidence each week.
From this we have also witnessed many new friendships being formed and existing ones being cemented
We have three incredible leaders at the helm of our club who have all done a great job as Captains and Vice-Captain – well done Ava, Jack and Jake
We have celebrated the success of our development players in School Sports National Championships, AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series, Magpie Academy and other elite pathways
We have had a dedicated team of coaches, assistant coaches and Team Managers who have successfully helped our families navigate the season
We have delivered a number of mental health and well-being support sessions through Mindful Aus and SALT to our parents, coaches and players which will continue to grow next season
We have provided specialist tackle training for older age groups and, again, this will be continued to be rolled out throughout the club next season
We welcomed players from Collingwood Football Club and our senior club at training sessions throughout all ages, as well as our U8, U9 and U10 boys and girls taking part in half-time grid games at senior games throughout the season
Events were back on the calendar with Family nights, Nathan Buckley player only night, Back to School Trivia Night and individual team catch ups
Thanks to Community Bank Warrandyte, we have created a Hardship Fund aimed to support families who require financial assistance with their football journey
We are grateful to be able to have done all the above and more thanks to the support of our sponsors. Thank you to Jellis Craig, Ringwood Mazda, Lotus Energy, Warran Glen Garden Centre & Café, Ryan Smith (former MP), Walshe & Whitelock, MCG Windows, DWE for your support. Thank you also to our team sponsors Pneutech, X Power, 3XIT, Park Orchards Pharmacy and Hometec Shading.
So many good things that have happened in such a short space of time. What a year and it isn’t over yet!
As we head towards the end of this season, the committee has started the planning process for 2024 with more great things to come for our members.
With that, I wanted to let you all know that after much consideration I have decided that I will not be nominating for the role of president for season 2024.
I have learned so much and have loved the opportunity to work with so many passionate people in our community over the past couple of years.
I am proud to have been part of a talented committee who have collectively worked very hard over the past two years to get our club on track after covid. Our priorities have been to focus on the players, their welfare and the joy of playing footy each week. We have achieved so many good things and with many more great things on the horizon. It is now time for someone else to take the helm.
I intend to remain on committee to support the incoming President and hope to focus on Sharks community engagement/partnerships and sponsorships for 2024.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your passion, support and positivity. I am so proud to be part of this club.
I would also like to encourage more of you to get involved in what is the heart beat of our local community.
If you think you would like to get more involved in the Sharks with an off or on committee role or have a skill that you would like to offer our club, we would love to hear from you.
We value every member of our community and want to have everyone involved and sharing the load of running this great club. In order for us to get a spread of roles (right people in the right positions), we are asking all of you to respond to this quick survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WMYSGZ6 by 5pm Sunday 20th August.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Good luck to you all for the final round of season 2023.
Go Sharks!!
Thanks a million
Kate

President's Message
Season 2016 is over, and what a great year it was! Bring on 2017 and the new challenges it represents.
Season 2016 marked my first year as President of this fantastic football club. It also marked the first for our Director of Football – Mark Leonard, Secretary – Andrew Mortlock and Treasurers – Rod Baston and Heath Lee. Rarely do all executive committee roles change at once. Continue Reading
