President’s Message: Round 4

Hi All Sharks

Round 4 is now complete

The YJFL Grading for 2016 has now reached its conclusion. We will know the positioning of teams that have made a request to change divisions within the next 24 hours. Once this knowledge is at hand we shall inform all team managers to pass on to their respective teams.

Congratulations to the team who have performed well during this process. Also, congratulations to the teams who have tried hard but have been outclassed due to being in the wrong division. Your commitment to complete each week and play for your teammates is exemplary.

To bring this to greater clarity for some, my three boys have had 1,297 points collectively kicked against them in the first four rounds. Ahh by golly I’m glad grading is now complete and we look forward to a more competitive season ahead.

Sometimes football reflects life in teaching us various lessons and how we, as a collective, deal with them even if not fully understanding why?!!

Bring on Season 2016 in its true format and may all of our players enjoy being on the park each week representing the Shards Junior Football Club.

Shark’s Pink Ribbon Day – Mothers’ Day

Our weekend kicked off with the new inaugural tradition of U8’s being played under lights on Friday night. Thank you to all players in attendance, including Beverley Hill J.F.C., helpers and parents. What a great atmosphere the night brought to all. Mums were recognised within their teams with nibbles, champers and congratulations. Committee and Colts put on a BBQ for all, whilst participating in the Buddies Program and also raising extra funds for Breast Cancer. Sorry folks for turning off the lights 2 hours after the matches were completed, but we wanted to go home to our families as well. Beaver, well done on the implementation of the evening. A great success as evidenced by the feedback received.

As mentioned last week, I would like to acknowledge and thank Amanda for organising again this year, through her initiatives and efforts, our Pink Ribbon Day Fundraisers. Great to see so many Sharks players providing a gold coin donation during the weekend to this worthy cause. Further donations can be made over the next week or so at the canteens. Not only do your actions raise money for a great cause, but also provides us with a greater awareness on how close to home this illness can hit. Well done to all Team Managers for collecting pink tape, bags etc. and co-ordinating the weekend.

Sharkwiz – Trivia Night! Only a few tickets sold! Come on Sharks, get on board!

Sharkwiz 2015 is fast approaching… Saturday 4th of June (folks, less than 4 weeks away) @7.00pm at Domeney Reserve. Whilst this is our primary fundraising event for the year, the Sharkwiz is an informal evening and a great opportunity to get to know the families of your teams, whilst having a bit of fun. We need each team to book at least one table of 10.

The Sharkwiz organising committee are seeking auction items for the Sharkwiz. A flyer explaining the request for any prizes/auction items that the Sharks Community are willing to donate is displayed on our webpage.

For ease of booking a new online system has been adopted so please refer to the Sharkwiz Invitation circulated to you via your team Managers or via the Team App.

For information please contact Michael Newton – Events Coordinator – on mobile 0421 049 904 or via email; events @sharksjfc.org.au

Committee Meeting

To all involved, our next committee meeting is Monday 23rd May. If you have any agenda items, please forward to Andrew Mortlock. UP for discussion is Core Group Policy, Handover of Treasurer Position, Team Selection, Membership Questionnaire and Youth Girls team 2017, amongst other items. We are starting to get traction with the girl’s teams and are currently interviewing prospective applicants, assistants and people to help coordinate. More to come on this exciting extension to the Sharks family.

Holy Spirit AGM 26th May

On behalf of the PONRPJFC, I will be in attendance at the Holy Spirits AGM on Thursday the 26th. If any parishioners wish to raise any thoughts beforehand, please let me know.

Burger Night Sunday 26th June

The next burger night (only 3 for the year) is the Colts/U8’s & U9’s Buddies Night. They will all be hosting the night, putting on clinic demonstrations and cooking for us all. So, just giving everyone a heads up on the date and parties involved. Look forward to seeing you all there.

P.O.F.C – Seniors

Our U19’s performed well again on the weekend with a big win at home. Unfortunately the seniors had a tough day on the park confronting 4 ex-VFL and 1 ex-AFl players fielded by Templestowe. With team mates out due to injury, our under strength Seniors were taught a lesson in anticipation and tight checking. Better luck next week boys.

P.O.F.C. – Netball

Our three teams competed hard on Friday night whilst results didn’t go our way, the girls in Div1, 2 and 6 put up a good show with 1 wins out of 3. These teams have only been incorporated this year and need our support going forward. More information and profiles will be forthcoming in future Shark Attacks.

Summary

Looking forward to Round 5 for our Juniors. If at any stage you have any queries then please don’t hesitate to contact myself.

Go Sharks!
