President’s Message: Round 2

Hi All Sharks,

ANZAC DAY Round 2

Like the ANZAC crowds around our Nation, the participation and respect shown by the Sharks membership was truly remarkable. From our Colts players attending the Ringwood RSL dawn service & laying a wreath on behalf of our club, through to the before game commitments to the team lineups and Ode, you should all be acknowledged. Thank you.

The long weekend has certainly been a long one.

Saturday kicked off the seniors with three matches on the day and our U8’s playing a grid game and also lining up with them prior to the 2:10 match to honour ANZAC duties.
The success of the crowd in attendance by both Juniors and Seniors involved was most notably due to the attendance of Jason Akermanis. Well done to all, a great carnival atmosphere was enjoyed by young & old.

Sunday saw 17 matches played in True ANZAC spirit. Results were all over the place, some winning by over 100 points, others losing by over 100 points. A tough day at the office for a few coaches and their teams. However, all played in great spirit and to the best of their abilities.

I must admit it was great to see both our Colts teams backing up their wins in Round 1 with wins in Round 2.

A special ANZAC day tribute match (maybe a new Tradition), occurred on Monday between our U15 Reds and Heidelberg at their home ground. The 18th & final team to play this round. Our boys played as a team looking out for each other & passing competently in an electrifying atmosphere. Our hosts were congratulatory to our well-deserved boys’ win.
Next year has already been pencilled in for this auspicious day.

From U8’s upwards, new club members & final year players, I’m very proud of you all and how, on behalf of your Club, you’ve conducted yourselves over this round.

Also, thanks to all parents for their involvement in duties performed & support whilst in a controlled but enthusiastic manner during all games. It really is appreciated.

YJFL Grading Process

Over the first four rounds the YJFL conduct grading of our U11 Teams upwards.
This is via historical information through to match results occurring during this time.

On assessment of the Grading period, teams can be moved up or down a division.
Whilst the Club has no influence over the League’s decision. Our Director of Football is in constant contact during this time. Each year some decisions are made by the YJFL that are hard to discern & understand for teams, but are also hard to change once implemented by them.

As mentioned last week, this can create some angst among our membership. Therefore please familiarise yourself with the YJFL By Laws-Schedule A- via the web page under the Policies tab.
If you have any questions please direct them to Mark Leonard, Director of Football, or myself thanks, rather than contacting the League.

SharKwiz – Trivia Night

Saturday 4th June is fast approaching. SharKwiz 2016 will be held at Domeney Reserve.
This is our club’s primary fund raising event for the year, it is an informal evening and a great opportunity to get to know other Sharks parents, whilst having a laugh!! At others and ourselves.

The SharKwiz organising committee of the U12’s are seeking sponsorships & auction items. A flyer explaining these opportunities will be out next week. Whereby all are requested to assist in obtaining prizes/auction items whatever they may be.

Thanks to Dave Philipsen for coordinating the Quiz and coming up with the most wonderfully (read infuriating) easy questions to answer? I’ll try to get a few correct this year!!

For ease of booking a new online system via Team App has been adopted this year.
Information on “how to” will be forthcoming in the next week or so.

For further information please contact Mike Newton – Events Coordinator – on 0421 049 904 or events@sharksjfc.org.au.

Summary

We are still looking for a Youth Girls Ambassador – could this be you? Please call me.

Sponsors are still requested to assist our great club. Please contact Julie Brown, see web site for details.

Next year will see availability for roles on Committee & canteen, please consider if you could volunteer for any area to be filled.

As always, happy to take calls or meet up face to face if you have any queries.

Wishing all the Best for Round 3

Go Sharks!
