President’s Message: Pre-Season 2015 1

Happy New Year Sharks Family and Welcome to Season 2015!

If you’re wondering to yourself, why the email, here is some context – there are 6 weeks until our first practice match and 11 weeks until Round 1. So in preparation for these dates I thought it best to start keeping you the membership informed.

Registration Day – Sunday 8 February 2015 – this week!

Committee will be holding a Registration Day this Sunday at Domeney Reserve between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm. The intention of the day is more guised toward our new Sharks and to provide support to our members who might not have access to the Online Registration. Members of committee will be present to provide you information and support on the registration process and where we are at for Season 2105. Currently Registration are sitting at 99 for 2105, with 2014 finishing with 398. It would be really great to things squared away prior to the practice matches as it assist committee in planning and preparing for the season.

Online Registration Open!

It is Committee’s preference to capture most of the registrations Online, so please feel free to do so now, the registration portal is open and available by clicking here and following the prompts.

Training

Whilst some of our more Senior teams have or are looking to commence training in the coming weeks, I would not expect our more junior teams to start training until a couple of weeks prior to our first practice matches on 22 March 2015. Each teams Coach or Team Manager will be in contact with you in due course, so please contain that enthusiasm, things will kick off soon.

Grounds

Manningham City Council will be conducting resurfacing works at Stintons Reserve commencing in March 2015. These works are going to occur throughout the football season, displacing both the Sharks Junior Football Club and our Auskick. Committee are currently working with Council and other community contact to identify a readymade solution, but unfortunately this will take some time. This is not something you need to worry about, and we have a fallback position with the YJFL if an alternate ground is not found. I will keep you up to date.

New Rules – Under 8, 9, 10

Season 2015 will see a shift in rules for these age groups. There are slight difference to each, with the most contentious being the ‘no tackling’ rule. The new rules are available on the Sharks webpage under the Members/Rules tab. I invite you all to have a read and wish to assure you that the club will provide you with appropriate information leading up to and throughout the season. So much so we have appointed Matt Fasan to the role of Under Age Ambassador. Matt will take the lead on these issues and be available to answer all questions.

Merchandise

Basic merchandise items will be available for purchase at Registration Day, Practice Matches or directly through Nina Foxwell our Merchandise Manager. The club is currently reviewing it merchandise with new items coming into stock during the year. Examples will be available for view in the period leading up to Round 1, so watch this space.
