Hi All Sharks,
Tuesday 24th July saw all our Colts, U18YG, Life Members, past Presidents, Parents, Helpers and Representatives enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Club Kilsyth. We shared on the foundations of how the Club has been built over the last 49 years with statistics and figures. This further continued into the Club’s vision going forward and the opportunities for all boys and girls being given the chance to be in a team environment and being part of something special. The PONRPJFC is a bastion to create positive growth whilst offering a pathway for every player and family to be the best they can be. The legacy we have inherited via previous Committees is important to us and the pressure to continue is acknowledged.
Thanks goes to Mason Witnish, our Under 19’s Captain and Michael Prosenak, the Senior’s Vice Captain for their attendance and speeches. They shared with us their journey from The Sharks JFC and the transition into the PCFNC family.
This was followed up with Daniel Gorringe sharing his time from the Draft to his seven seasons as an AFL footballer. Taken No. 10 in the super draft of 2010 on the Gold Coast, his name called out first that year as it was top down. From his excitement of the Draft, to his Rookie Season for the Suns, then onto major injury. The frank and open discourse shared by Daniel of his life at the Suns, the times of injury and the ultimate rejection by his coach had everyone hanging onto his every word. The move to Carlton gave him a new lease of lease of life until cruelled by Achilles injuries for a third time left him bereft of an AFL career. Continue Reading
Hi All Sharks, Well done and congratulations to all the Mums and Dads who turned up for Saturday night Social Evening. This year we were located at “The Grand” in Warrandyte.
The evening had a bit of a chill, the wind decided to reduce the temp by a few degrees yet upon arrival the CFA were there to greet us. Well not really. They were there to treat a couple of suspicious fires and investigate some chimneys not performing properly. Talk about a tough start. It was like walking through a maze and obstacle course just to get inside. Continue Reading
Hi All Sharks, I trust all Players, Mums and Dads enjoyed their break over the holidays. I know the committee welcomed the chance to charge their batteries and put their feet up for a few days. Well, hasn’t time flown we are into our last month of home and away games before the finals commence on the 19th August. So much to do, so little time! Continue Reading
Hi All Sharks
I observed some wonderful football matches over the weekend. They were close, tough encounters whilst played in good spirit. It’s amazing how the game of football can teach many of life’s lessons. Caring for your team mates, participating in a team environment, respecting our opposition through to following rules. Society is no different, participation, looking out for others, obeying regulations and displaying respect. Continue Reading
Holy cow, strewth, what a weekend! Saturday night around 5.00pm I saw and heard the heavens open up. Every hour during Saturday night the rain fell heavier and heavier. At 7.45am Sunday morning I was cooking a couple of poached eggs on toast when the calls and photos began. Domeney and Stintons were awash. I thought ‘Oh, the poor U8s and U9s having to play in this’. It got worse when I was texted to “bring my flippers, water wings, mask and snorkel”. Continue Reading
Hi Sharks Family
Round 8 kicked off with a bang at Victoria Park on Friday Evening with our Colt Reds for Indigenous Round. On one of the coldest evenings this winter, the football displayed was hotly contested. Fitzroy JFC put on a ‘Welcome to the Country’ ceremony with ‘Uncle Bill’ and our troops were welcomed to walk through the ceremonial smoke. Alan Christianson (formally of Geelong FC) represented the Brisbane Lions in attendance at the game as a marquis speaker and indigenous player representative.
Whilst Fitzroy were too good on the night, it was pleasing to see a number of Sharks jackets in the crowd. Continue Reading
It’s hard to believe we are already up to Round 7 this week. Nearly halfway through the season yet it feels as though we’ve just got under way. Continue Reading
Our Sharks players turned up en mass to compete with effort and heart this week. Many battles were played out on the day with the round returning a mixed bag. Some great wins, close losses and a result for one team too large to worry about. As per the weekly draw, we can refocus and look to next week. Continue Reading
Melbourne’s weather was on display in its totality this weekend. Unfortunately, due to the 6◦C and driving rain Friday night was cancelled. I know Auskickers, U8’s and U9’s were disappointed at being unable to put on a display for their mums. However, I heard the sigh of relief from some of these mums at being able to stay home in the warmth. BUT don’t despair kids, all things being equal, you’ll get a chance this Friday night. Continue Reading
