President’s Message: Round 15

Hi All Sharks

The sun was shining on Sunday to signify that finals were upon us. Five teams set out to do battle, all with a clear focus of what was needed to make the next step. Well done to Paris Harrie’s U15’s and Heath Lee’s U11’s for wins that put them straight to the Grand Final.

Colts Red had a poor day at the office but I’m sure will bounce back this week to get themselves into a much deserved Grand Final. Great effort and well fought, however, Rob Clarke’s U11’s and Andy Schafer’s U12’s just failed to get there. Congratulations on a great season for both teams. Neither were expected to play finals, but someone forgot to tell the boys. Looking forward to seeing you all in action next year.

21 August – PARK ORCHARDS COLTS RED vs ST MARY’S 1

2.45pm @ Bulleen Park Oval No. 1.

Come on Sharks Family, let’s get out and support our boys. We want to flood the oval with red, black and white. See you there Sunday, thanks for your support.

9 September – YJFL Presidents Meeting @ League HG

All clubs attend at the headquarters last week for an end of season, pre-finals meeting. In attendance from the Sharks we Mark Powell (YJFL Director), Mark Leonard (Director of Football) and myself. One of the main points of interest to us was from the four youth forum representatives. All play in the YJFL and all are approximately 15 years old.

They each had a minute or two to speak during the night and gave the following messages from a player’s perspective:

  • They don’t like aggressive nature or aggressive barracking from parents,
  • They don’t tolerate abuse towards players or umpires, and they have seen an improvement here
  • Like to see positive interactions between everyone – regardless of club or role you are representing
  • Want everyone to ‘Think before you speak’, understanding you are representing your club as well
  • We are all role models – remember this at all times

Out of the mouth of babes.  A message for us all to adhere to next season.

The YJFL will be putting on a 6 session Junior Development Program later this year. This will apply to this year’s U11’s, U12’s and U13’s.

  • L2 Coaches in attendance
  • Aim is to encourage interaction, improve skills and build self esteem.

Emails of actual dates and times will be sent to us shortly and will subsequently be passed on. If interested you will need to respond directly to the YJFL.
