President’s Message: Pre-Season 4

Welcome to the Sharks family of season 2016.

Thanks to all who have been involved on committee & pre-season coaching during the last few months.
How quickly it is upon us. I know families like mine are still playing cricket & basketball finals BUT footy is here!

Registrations

Keep them coming in. We’ve passed 300 & on the way to 350 players for 2016 season. If you are still waiting, don’t… please register online now!

Please remember to print off, complete & sign the code of conduct form & the medical forms to hand in prior to or at Kinglake to your team managers if you haven’t already done so.

Numbers are good but we can always do with more, especially in the older age groups. Boys please bring your friends to training. All are welcome and they might like it enough to sign up.

Practice Games

Most teams have this long weekend off so please enjoy some family time.

Kinglake games are on Sunday 20th March from 8.30am. Please try and arrive 45 mins early for your nominated game time.

Your Coach or Team Manager will let you know in the next few days when your match is.

Booroondara practice matches are scheduled for 10th April after the school holidays. Venues TBA but will be mixed between our home grounds & Hawthorn/Camberwell.

Round 1 kicks off on the 17th of April.

Coaches & Team Managers

All appointments have now been finalised. We will be holding information evenings over the next few weeks regarding your roles, guidelines on club policy & YJFL requirements.

Please contact Mark Leonard Director of Football or Paul Hayes Director of Team Managers with any queries. Check our website for details if you are not sure.

Season Launch

At the conclusion of Round 1 on the 17th April, the Sharks family will get together for our first Burger night of the season at 5.30 at Domeney. Make sure you get your free raffle tickets to win great prizes when purchasing something to eat.

Apart from burgers and sausages, Jodene’s world famous chicken schnitzels will be available albeit without her involvement this year. Thanks Jo for your years of help. This will be taken up by the age groups on Burger night.

Please mark it on your calendar now. Mums, a night off cooking & the chance for a glass of bubbly with friends. There are only 3 booked this year so we’d love to see you all there.

Also book in our Trivia night (4th June) & our Cocktail function (23rd July) for great adult nights out.

Team App

It’s up & running, please all get on board now.

  1. Open up the App Store or Play Store on your smartphone, search for “Team App”, and download this App
  2. In Team App, search for “Sharks Junior Football Club” and select the result (there are a few other clubs listed)
  3. Enter your details to confirm your membership with the club.
  4. Once complete, on the right-hand side of the screen select the team your child is in and press continue at the top right of your screen. A screen will appear asking you to provide a reason for requesting access to the selected groups. Press OK and then type in your relevant reason, i.e. “my son is playing in this age group”.

Canteen

Stintons canteen needs an operator for 2016.

If you are over 18, have a licence & car & can dedicate 15 Sunday’s from 7.30 until approx 3.30 then please contact me for a job description.

Sponsorship

We are now taking both Team Sponsorship & General Sponsorship. Please let us know if you are interested & we will have or Sponsorship Co-ordinator contact you to help us keep this great club operating for our kids.

Under 8’s

Great to see around 44 children turn up tonight and thanks to the parents who “volunteered” to take on roles.

We will have three teams this year unless we get some more registrations and this may become four. Great effort all & welcome.

See you all at Kinglake at 8.00am on Sunday week. Please allow 50-60 minutes to get there on the day.

The Sharks are a family football club that prides itself on participation, win, lose or draw. Thanks for being a part of the largest club around.

Youth Girls

Our focus is to launch a youth girls’ team or two in 2017 & we are looking for an ambassador to take this role on.

If you are interested please give me a call to discuss.

Concussion

The Eastern Brain Centre is holding a free concussion information session at Yarra Rd Primary School on 16th March. We encourage parents to attend. Click here for more information, or click here to register.

As always, your child’s health & well-being is our foremost consideration along with their enjoyment as a part of the Sharks family. We offer various education nights throughout the year on a range of topics & will let you know as they come up.

Conclusion

Sorry for the amount of information but it’s that time of the year where I’d rather give too much leading into the season than not enough.

As always happy to discuss any issues that you may have via the phone.

Go Sharks!
