President’s Message: Round 4

Hi All Sharks,

The first four rounds of every season are a little unsettled.

The YJFL grading process is being applied, Coaches are trying to work through their lists to ensure everyone is getting a go, Team Managers are working through the administration processes required around game day, and Committee are continually bombarding everyone with the information necessary to ensure your child gets a game of football each week.

For the majority you calm will be restored by Round 5 and we can ALL get on with enjoying the season and watching our children play. Isn’t it nice that this year Round 5 coincides with Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day this Sunday – reminder for father and players!

Sharks Pink Ribbon Day is a fund raising event for the Breast Cancer Foundation that has been initiated by a mother within the club, who as I am sure many of us have, has been affected by a person close to her who has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

The Sharks Committee fully support the initiative and ask that you circulate an email amongst your playing groups advising them of Sharks Pink Ribbon Day this weekend and the request that each boy bring a gold donation to the game, as we strive as a club to raise as much money as possible for the Breast Cancer Foundation on Mother’s Day this weekend – Sunday 10th May 2015.

Pink balloons and pink streamers will be tied to the gates at our home grounds to highlight the significance of the day and hopefully encourage others at the ground to donate as well.

There may also be some pink tape when you collect your pink bags with the anticipation that the boys wear pink arm bands in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation this week on Mother’s Day.

SharKwiz – Trivia Night!

Sharkwiz 2015 is fast approaching…Saturday 30 May 2015 at Domeney Reserve! Whilst this is our primary fund raising event for the year, the SharKwiz is an informal evening and a great opportunity to get to know the families in your teams, whilst having a bit of fun.

The SharKwiz organising committee are seeking auction items for the SharKwiz. A flyer explaining the request for any prizes/auction items that the Shark’s Community are willing to donate is displayed on our webpage.

For ease in booking a new online system has been adopted so please refer to the SharKwiz Invitation circulated to you via your Team Managers or available online by clicking here.

A thank you from Templestowe Junior Football Club

I was pleased to receive a message from the President of the TJFC on Monday morning acknowledging our club and its help to them after they allowed us to use their facilities in the absence of access to Stintons Reserve. David Schwarzer wrote:

Hi Sean, on behalf of the TJFC I would like to thank your parents and club for their assistance in cleaning and packing up. It is a pleasure to have great respectful people at the club. As you know it is rare these days. Your club is welcome any weekend you need ovals. We have great grounds and facilities and can host 5 matches per week. Thanks again.

As you would all be aware our loss of access to Stintons Reserve in Season 2015 has required the YJFL to roster our games at Bulleen Park and now Templestowe and Warrandyte. Whilst these clubs benefit financially having us play at their grounds, there is still some impost of having to set up and maintain their ovals throughout the day to accommodate us. It is great to see that those of you representing the Sharks appreciate this also and display this through you acts of support. Well done to you all, and thanks from me.

Injuries!

A number of Sharks players have suffered a variety of injuries up to this point of the season, so it is timely to let you all know that we are insured. The YJFL has injury insurance policy through JLT Insurance that provides not only players but also parents/helpers/etc. An information sheet is available in this week Shark Attack or on the website under Members > Forms. If you require further information please give me a call.

YJFL Grading Process!

The YJFL grading process has been. If you wish to raise issue with any of the grading decisions please contact Kevin George – Director of Football or I.

We Need You On Committee!

At the end of Season 2015 a number of positions will become vacant on Committee. These vacancies will include the four primary roles – President, Director of Football, Secretary and Treasurer. We are NOW seeking your support, so if you are in a position to assist can you PLEASE give me a call.

Summary

If at any stage during the season you wish to raise issue with me – positive or negative – please feel free to do so either personally or via the telephone. I delete negative emails!

Wishing you all the very best for Round 5. Please enjoy yourselves. Go Sharks!!!!
