President’s Letter: Edition 2

Hi All Sharks,

How much difference a week makes, Round 1 in pelting sideways rain and Round 2 we needed the sunscreen!!

Once again, there were some lopsided results. Unfortunately, one of our younger sides had a bye due to another Club’s team folding. This can happen over the first few weeks. Most Clubs are experiencing a drop in player numbers this year. We are no different. Though, I think we are luckier than most with approximately 500 registered players in 24 teams. This does mean that some teams are thin on numbers, around 17 or 18 players. The Sharks pride themselves on participation and where possible would rather 2 teams than 1 super team. This allows all players more game time. Registrations are still occurring on a daily basis, if you have a friend who may want to play, get them down to training,

Conversely, it also means some teams need top up players from the younger teams. Please, may I ask, if you need to top up please do so via the correct channels. We require the Team Manager or Coach to make contact with the corresponding Team Manager where the players are being sourced from. This allows for correct recording of games played and reduces the likelihood of a younger player being stuck in a higher age group if they play too many games.

From U8’s upwards, new club members & final year players, I’m very proud of you all and how, on behalf of your Club, you’ve conducted yourselves over this round. The passion of the first two rounds was fantastic whilst displayed in a controlled manner.
Also, thanks to all parents for their involvement in duties performed & support whilst in a respected but enthusiastic manner during all games. It really is appreciated.
It was marvellous to see all our teams show respect for this ANZAC Round. To see the unity of our teams, arm in arm during the reading of the ANZAC Ode and the minutes silence was easily take in their stride. To show support in memory of those who gave their lives so that we could partake freely in the past-times we enjoy, such as football, was a true show of unity and strength by our club.
Thank you young and old, players, parents and support for being a part of this day of remembrance.

YJFL Grading Process

Over the first four rounds the YJFL conduct grading of our U11 Teams upwards.
This is via historical information from last year through to match results occurring during this time.

On assessment of the Grading period, teams can be moved up or down a division.
Whilst the Club has no influence over the League’s decision. Our Director of Football is in constant contact during this time. Each year some decisions are made by the YJFL that are hard to discern & understand for teams, but are also hard to change once implemented by them.

As mentioned last week, this can create some angst among our membership. Therefore please familiarise yourself with the YJFL By Laws-Schedule A- via the webpage under the Policies tab. If you have any questions please direct them to Mark Leonard, Director of Football, or myself thanks, rather than contacting the League. All contact must be conducted via the correct channels.

SharKwiz- Trivia Night

Saturday 2nd June is fast approaching. SharKwiz 2017 will be held at Domeney Reserve.
This is our club’s primary fund raising event for the year; it is an informal evening and a great opportunity to get to know other Sharks parents, whilst having a laugh!! At others and ourselves.

The SharKwiz organising committee of the U12’s are seeking sponsorships & auction items. A flyer explaining these opportunities will be out this week. Whereby all are requested to assist in obtaining prizes/auction items whatever they may be.

Thanks to Dave Philipsen for coordinating the Quiz and coming up with the most wonderfully (read infuriating) easy questions to answer? I’ll try to get a few correct this year!!

For ease of booking, an online system via Team App is available. Tickets can be purchased for $25.00 each. Please organise a table for your team and work out who is to bring what food etc. and BYO drinks. Information on “how to” will be forthcoming in the next few days via your Team Managers.

For further information please contact Nina Foxwell 0409 564 724 or merchandise@sharksjfc.org.au

Kinglake Donation

The Majority of our club know we support our cousins at Kinglake in their rebuild after the devastating fires of 2009. With a loss of 173 people and over 2,000 homes raised in these “Black Saturday” fires, the PONRPJFC has attended events each years to help raise funds for this community. From ashes the local “heart” of the Kinglake has now been beating for a number of years. No football or netball teams to NOW senior and junior teams competing on a weekly basis. Kinglake and the Sharks are joined together in spirit, community passion and the Aussie tradition of ‘giving it a go’ in a united manner.
Accordingly, on behalf of the committee, I call all Sharks to pledge a minimum of $5.00 per player, this Round to underwrite the Kinglake season, A tank of petrol would have cost more than $20.00 to get up there, so if you can afford it, then please give generously. All team managers will be collecting during Rounds 3 and 4 from all players’ parents.

Weekly Sponsor

Club Ringwood and Club Kilsyth are hosting “High Tea” for families on the Saturday 12th prior to Mother’s Day. A great opportunity to get together the day before in a relaxed manner rather than rushing around everywhere on Sunday. See flyer attached.
Also, attached is a separate voucher, for all Sharks families to buy a meal and receive the second for FREE. Get on board and take advantage of these special deals from one of our major sponsors during May.

Mother’s Day – Round 5

Our annual breast cancer Awareness fund raiser occurs on Mothers’ Day. Started by one of our mums, Amanda, a few years ago, we are seeking a gold coin donation on the day from all players and parents. All Team Managers (at Home or playing Away) will collect donations and raffle tickets will be handed out for each collection. One of our main sponsors “warren Glen Centre ‘are kindly donating prizes for the day. These will be drawn once all raffle butts are returned for the draw
Our Auskickers will play at Domeney for Friday night from 5.00pm, then our U8’s and U9’s at 6.30pm. The Colts will be in attendance to cook up a storm on the BBQs. Now, I must remind mums that no alcohol is allowed during the games, however I did spot the odd sly champers before and after at last year’s event. Good on you mums, celebrate the occasion and enjoy a sleep in on Sunday if you can. Come on Dad’s, make sure all the support roles are conducted by yourselves on this evening.

Summary

Sponsors are still requested to assist our great club. Please contact Sue Smith, see website for details.

Next year will see availability for roles on Committee, please consider if you could volunteer for any area to be filled. These cover Team Managers Coordinator and Events Coordinator.

As always, happy to take calls or meet up face to face if you have any queries.

Wishing all the best for Round 3. Enjoy and go Sharks!!
