President’s Letter: Edition 1

Hi All Sharks,

The season is up and running, hopefully smoother for most of our coaches & teams than we on committee could have imagined.

The planning to get the season underway has been occurring for the last five months. Thank you to all the folks involved in volunteering to get our Club to this point.

Once again, thank you to all for your help & roles undertaken throughout our great club. In particular our Director of Football – Mark Leonard, Coach Co-ordinator – Dean Prest, Football Support – Mick Choveaux Team Managers Coordinator – Steve Siesmaa amongst other committee members.

Let’s now all enjoy season 2018.

It was with great pleasure to see so many familiar faces during the day on Sunday. The committee were out in force assisting teams in preparation and the ladies in the Canteen had the food hot and ready to go. It was great to see experienced Volunteers giving a helping hand to our new members, especially novice Coaches and Team Managers.
Thank you and well done one and all – a true family involvement! Fantastic to see we are fielding 24 teams this season. More opportunity for game time for all.

I was thrilled to see our Youth Girls in action and congratulate all teams on their endeavour. For all our Players and Parents, great to get the first match under our belts.

Grading Process

There was a real mixed bag of results from Round 1.

Each year the YJFL embark on a Grading process over the first four rounds. They consider last year’s results, info provided by your club prior to the season & post the grading rounds and an assessment of results during the first four games.

In the past from time to time this has created some difficulty for committee, so as a result we please ask you familiarise yourself with YJFL Bylaws – Schedule A – via the Website.

Burger Night Wrap Up

WOW, what a great response to our season launch Burger night. There were hundreds of our Sharks family in attendance. Well done to all from Auskick to U8’s at their first burger
night through to the Colts & all the Mums & Dads.

Sorry, due to the food lines not diminishing until all 7.00pm, we got under way a bit later than normal. The Kids loved the Raffle. Thanks to all our helpers on the night who allowed the evening to run smoothly. U12s – you were brilliant with support and efforts on the BBQs, thank you!

Thanks to Nina and her merchandise team, they never stopped all night and consequently sold out on various items. Orders for replacement stock have now been made.

Club Captains

Congratulations to all the Colts who applied for this Distinguished position. Due to the quality of applications received, interviews conducted, club policy & age, we were left with a daunting decision to make. It was a very close call on all applicants.

Well done to Tyler Prunty as Club Captain & Alex Magnano and Brooke Marshall as Vice Captains.

Every application received showed great maturity & leadership. Watch out for our Colts this year, they are a great bunch of young men.

SharKwiz – Trivia Night!

SharKwiz 2018 is fast approaching, Saturday 2nd of June at Domeney Reserve. This is our primary fund raising event for the year, please see your Team Managers & Website for details. Come on be a part of it!

The SharKwiz is an informal night & a great opportunity to get to know the families in your Teams. Also whilst having a bit of fun.

I don’t know if I’m a jinx or not but no-one wants to sit with me, maybe coming last doesn’t give encouragement!!!

The organising committee are seeking sponsorships & Auction items for the SharKwiz. A flyer explaining the sponsorship opportunities available & request for any prizes/auction items that can be donated will be out to you all soon. Your voluntary contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Sponsorship – Name Sponsors

Whilst our club is built on volunteers we need every ones input in securing various sponsorship deals. Their contributions allow us to keep fees at a reduced level whilst assisting in our operating costs. Please contact our sponsorship coordinator, Sue Smith, if you can help in any way. sponsorship@sharksjfc.org.au
Team sponsors are filling fast, time to act is NOW!

Conduct

The Sharks are looked upon with envy by other clubs over how our Parents conduct themselves at matches; let’s please keep it that way. I know we are all very passionate towards barracking for our children, please make sure it’s in a positive manner. Umpires are there to help the game flow. Remember they are only human and at times can make mistakes, please show positive support & watch swearing.

Round 2 – ANZAC Round

Our Colts and other players / parents will be in attendance at next Wednesday’s dawn service at the Clock Tower in Ringwood. On behalf of the club, if you are coming along to show your respects, please come in your Sharks jackets.

This Sunday all matches will be proceeded by the reading of “The Ode”. Please show our respects prior to the matches with a minute’s silence.

Summary

If at any stage during the season you wish to raise any issues then contact me directly, please feel free to do so either personally or on the phone

Wishing all the Teams the best for next week and the season ahead.
