Kinglake Community show PONRJFC they will rebuild after
the Black Saturday Bushfires

Sunday 28th April was a very special day for the PONRPJFC and Kinglake Football & Netball Club.
The feedback we have received since then has been nothing but positive with one experienced club member describing the day as "One of the best days I have been involved with at the Sharks" and "a new high for the club and wonderful, but at the same time sobering day for players, parents and supporters alike".

The day was made possible due to the commitment from Sharks players, members, coaches and Team Managers and the attendance from all Sharks teams was excellent. As summed up by another parent, every game was played in "a competitive but good spirit", which is testament to all of our players who gained a good hit out prior to the season commencing. All games were played in an excellent spirit! The Kinglake Football & Netball Club have conveyed their thanks for our show of support and they were absolutely ecstatic about how successful and positive the day was for everyone and have extended the Sharks with an invitation to come back next year.

kinglake_football_club_president For people, a club and community that has been through so much devastation, the positive attitude shown by Cameron Caine and his team at Kinglake was inspirational to all, and if only a small part of the message conveyed by Cameron after each game was taken in by our players and parents then the day fulfilled it's purpose.

The work undertaken by Kinglake to host 8 games was huge and we can advise that they were absolutely thrilled with the day and were excited in watching juniors play at Kinglake and it has inspired them to try and restart their junior program.

Some times you meet people with special qualities, and for those who listened to a number of Cameron's speeches you could not only feel the despair for the impact on the Kinglake community re loss of families and belongings, but also feel inspired by the positive attitude to recover from the impact of Black Saturday. As an aside, with tragedy also brings opportunity to those who step up and Cameron has been approached to become the local Member of Parliament. Cameron I am certain inspired many people.

There is no doubt the day was a winner for both Kinglake and the Sharks communities and we will foster the relationship going forward to expand on this positive experience. The funds raised will be used by Kinglake to support the club and community with a focus on using funds to drive the restart of their junior football at Kinglake.

We had a number of helpers throughout the day helping out with organising teams, time keeping, raffles, umpiring, cleaning up the ground etc and without individualising we would like to thank them all for helping towards the day.
